On November 29, 2023 in the city of Santo Domingo – Dominican Republic, the V Intergovernmental Council (IGC) of the Initiative that brought together 9 member countries: Andorra, Bolivia, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Panama, Portugal, Dominican Republic and Uruguay. This CIG was hosted by the Ministry of Women of the Dominican Republic, host country, highlighting the strong commitment once again of Minister Mayra Jiménez and her entire ministerial team, and was led by the Presidency of the Initiative, in charge of the Delegation of the Government against Gender Violence of the Ministry of Equality of Spain, through its acting delegate Victoria Rosell Aguilar.

Likewise, the meeting was accompanied by the Ibero-American General Secretariat through its Subregional Office of the Southern Cone, administrator of the funds, and the Gender Area.

The results of the CIG meeting were important advances in relation to the agreements for the direction of the Annual Operational Plan for the year 2024 and the financial and in-kind commitments by the countries with the objective of giving continuity and strengthening this Initiative, which constitutes the first permanent platform of Ibero-American Cooperation that seeks to put an end to one of the most urgent social problems in the countries of the region, such as violence against women.

For its part, the Ministry of Women of the Dominican Republic led, on November 28, within the framework of the CIG, the Forum “Towards Legal Frameworks to Strengthen Protection Systems against Gender Violence” with the objective of knowing the update of the legal and regulatory frameworks for strengthening the Protection System and comprehensive response to violence against women. It had the presence and presentation of the country representatives (REPPI) of the countries of the Initiative, delegates of the mechanisms for the advancement of women in the region, authorities and public institutions of the country, the European Cooperation Agency and local women's organizations.

Likewise, on November 30, one of the substantive activities committed by the Plurinational Women's Service for the Depatriarchalization of Bolivia in the 2023 operational planning was carried out: Ibero-American Workshop on “Good practices developed in Specialized Services in the Care, Protection and Comprehensive Reparation of Women Victims of Violence and Survivors” which had the participation of all the REPPI of the countries present in the Initiative.

Once again, we redouble our commitment to continue fighting this scourge and encourage more countries to take ownership of this privileged space for exchange by joining the joint work within the framework of Ibero-American Cooperation.
